Secret Santa With Exclusions (Keep Couples Apart)
To stop couples or housemates from drawing each other, add an exclusion for that pair in SantaDraw and tick \u201capply both ways\u201d before you draw. The generator respects every rule, and if your rules make a draw impossible it tells you instead of quietly breaking one.
How to add an exclusion
- Enter everyone’s names in the free Secret Santa generator.
- Pick two people under exclusions. By default the first will never draw the second.
- Tick “apply both ways” for couples, so neither draws the other.
- Add as many rules as you need, then press draw.
Good uses for exclusions
- Partners who already buy for each other
- Parents and young children
- Housemates who will see each other’s parcels arrive
- Pairs who matched last year (add them manually)
When a draw is impossible
Small groups with many rules sometimes have no valid arrangement. For example, with three people, excluding one couple both ways leaves no way for the draw to work. SantaDraw searches systematically, so it can tell you plainly that no draw exists. Remove or relax one rule and try again.

Frequently asked questions
Can I stop couples from drawing each other?
Yes. Add an exclusion for the couple and tick apply both ways, so neither partner draws the other.
Is an exclusion one-way or two-way?
By default it is one-way: the first person never draws the second. Tick apply both ways to block both directions.
How many exclusions can I add?
As many as you need. The generator checks every rule on each draw.
What happens if the rules make the draw impossible?
You get a clear message that no valid draw exists, rather than a result that ignores a rule.
Can it avoid last year’s matches automatically?
Not automatically. Add last year’s pairs as exclusions to keep them from repeating.
